How lessons are written and checked
About our content
Where TradeTraining’s lessons, questions and explanations come from, how we check them, what they are not, and how to tell us about a mistake.
Draft, awaiting legal review
This page describes what the site actually does, but it has not yet been reviewed by a solicitor. Details shown in [square brackets] are still being filled in or confirmed.
The short version
- Our lessons and questions are written for this site with help from AI, and our team is checking them.
- They are for learning about the trade. They are not a qualification, and finishing them does not make you competent, certified or registered.
- If you find a mistake, please tell us.
The notice on every lesson
Every lesson, review session, drill and practice paper carries a notice like this:
Learning content, not a qualification: it won't make you competent, certified or registered. Follow BS 7671 and a qualified electrician before acting.
It is short so that it fits above a question on a phone. The rest of this page is the longer version.
How it is made
- Every question, explanation and teaching card is written for this site, with AI assistance. Many were first drafted by an AI model, which we ask for questions on a topic we choose. Our drafting tool drops any draft that fails its format checks or reads like quoted text from a standard. Our team is checking what remains.
- We do not copy BS 7671, City & Guilds material or past exam papers. We cite regulation numbers and state facts in our own words.
- Each question is tagged with the amendment of BS 7671 it was written for, so it can be replaced when the rules change.
- The workshop simulations are built by us. They simplify real equipment, and they cannot show that a real installation is safe.
How it is checked
- Automated checks cover the format and the wording rules we can test: that a question is complete and in the right format, and that it does not suggest finishing a lesson makes anyone competent or qualified. Checking our home-safety wording, where a lesson covers work in the home, is partly done by hand, and that check is not finished.
- Our team is checking the content. The checks include an AI-assisted review that hunts for wrong answers, unclear wording and unsafe advice, and a person on the team reads the results and the fixes.
- Our content has not been reviewed by electricians, plumbers or other qualified tradespeople. Check the current regulations and ask a qualified person before you act on anything.
- We do not describe the content as expert-checked or accredited, and we do not say it was written by electricians.
AI explanations in the app
Some features use AI while you learn. Practice summaries on Insights and after a mock exam are written from your scores and topic names only. Explanations of a question and feedback on a written answer use AI only once our team has finished checking that question; until then, and whenever AI is unavailable, you see the explanation we wrote.
AI text is generated automatically and can be wrong. Before you see it, automated rules check it, for example that it does not cite a regulation the question does not, but no person reads it first. How your answers are handled when AI is used is in our privacy notice.
When the rules change
When an amendment changes an answer, the old question is withdrawn once its replacement is written, so the app never serves both. Some questions may not have caught up with the newest amendment yet, so always check the current edition of the regulations before you rely on anything.
Found a mistake?
In the app, press “Report a problem with this question” under the answer. It tells us which question it was, so there is nothing to copy.
Or email [CONTACT EMAIL] and tell us:
- the lesson or page it is on (our site map lists every page by name);
- the question or sentence, copied or as a screenshot;
- what you think is wrong and, if you can, a source such as a regulation number.
We look at each report and correct anything that is wrong. If something in a lesson looks unsafe, do not wait for our reply: stop, and ask a qualified person.
Who we are
TradeTraining is run by [OPERATOR NAME]. We are independent: we are not affiliated with or endorsed by City & Guilds, the IET or any other awarding or standards body, and qualification names are cited only to identify them. Our contact page has our details, and our terms of use say what the app is and is not.
