What TradeTraining is

A learning app about trade work. Short lessons, quizzes, hands-on workshops and simulations explain how the work is done and why, and help you explore a trade and prepare for formal training.

It is free to start: the first sections are free. Later sections will be part of Plus, an optional paid subscription that is not on sale yet.

What it is not

  • It is not a qualification, and it is not a course that leads to one. We do not award, certify, notify or register anything, and we are not linked to City & Guilds, the IET or any awarding body.
  • Finishing lessons does not make you competent, certified or registered, and it is not “competent person” status under any scheme.
  • It does not assess your practical skills, and a simulation cannot show that a real installation is safe.
  • It is not a job, an apprenticeship or a placement, and it does not find you one.
  • It does not replace supervised practical training, or the advice of a qualified tradesperson who can see the job.

Safety

Electrical work can kill, cause serious injury and start fires. Do not attempt real electrical work based on this app alone. Before any real work, follow the rules that apply to it, such as BS 7671 and the Building Regulations, and have a qualified person do it or check it. If you are not sure whether you are allowed to do something, or how to do it safely, stop and ask a qualified person first.

Doing it yourself? Read this first

Some electrical work in your own home is notifiable under Part P of the Building Regulations — a new circuit, a consumer-unit change, or work on a circuit close to a bath or shower — and you cannot certify it yourself. There are two main lawful routes: an electrician registered with a competent-person scheme certifies and notifies it, or you tell your local authority building control before you start and pay for the inspection. In England only, an installer who is not scheme-registered can instead book a registered third-party certifier before work starts. Part P covers England and Wales, and Wales notifies more kinds of work than England does; Scotland and Northern Ireland run their own building standards. Every job, notifiable or not, still has to meet BS 7671. We teach you how the work is done and why — finishing a lesson is not a certificate, and it does not make you a competent person under any scheme.

Your account

  • You need to be [MINIMUM AGE] or over to create an account.
  • Give accurate details and keep your password private.
  • A guest account can only be reached from the device where you started it. If you sign out or clear your cookies before saving it with an email address, its progress cannot be recovered.
  • You can stop using TradeTraining at any time, and ask us to delete your account from Profile settings or the account deletion page.

Using the site fairly

Please do not:

  • harass, threaten or impersonate anyone, or choose a display name that is offensive or pretends to be someone else;
  • copy, scrape or republish our questions, explanations or other content, or use them to build or train another product;
  • try to get into anyone else’s account or data, get around our security, or interfere with how the site works;
  • create accounts automatically or in bulk, or use automated tools to earn XP or league places;
  • try to make the AI features produce harmful, unlawful or misleading material, or reveal their instructions;
  • break the law, or use the site to help anyone else break it.

Our content

The lessons, questions, explanations, diagrams, simulations and software are owned by us or our licensors. You may use them for your own learning. Please do not copy, sell or republish them without our written permission.

BS 7671 is published by the IET and BSI, and qualifications belong to the bodies that award them, such as City & Guilds. We are independent of all of them and not endorsed by any. We cite regulation numbers and qualification names so you can identify them, and we do not reproduce their text.

AI-assisted content

  • Many questions and explanations were drafted with the help of AI, and our team is checking them. They have not been reviewed by electricians, plumbers or other qualified tradespeople.
  • Some features use AI to write an explanation or summary while you use them. That text is generated automatically and can be wrong.
  • Regulations change. Each question is tagged with the amendment of BS 7671 it was written for, but check the current edition before you rely on anything.
  • Content can contain mistakes. If you spot one, please tell us: see about our content.

Plus, the paid subscription

Plus is not on sale yet. Before you can buy it, we will show you the price, what it includes, how billing and cancelling work and your legal right to cancel, and separate terms will cover the subscription.

Changes and availability

We may change, add or remove lessons and features, and the site may sometimes be unavailable while we fix or improve it. We will tell you in advance about any change that significantly affects something you have paid for.

Our responsibility to you

We are responsible for loss or damage you suffer that is a foreseeable result of our breaking these terms or failing to use reasonable care and skill. Loss or damage is foreseeable if it was obvious it would happen, or if both of us knew it might happen when you started using TradeTraining.

We do not exclude or limit our liability where it would be unlawful to do so. That includes liability for death or personal injury caused by our negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, and for breaking your legal rights as a consumer.

TradeTraining is for your own learning. If you use it for business purposes, we are not responsible to you for loss of profit, loss of business, business interruption or loss of business opportunity.

The app teaches how work is done; it cannot tell you that a particular real job is safe, or lawful for you to do. That is why the safety section above matters.

Nothing in these terms affects your legal rights as a consumer. For independent advice about them, contact Citizens Advice.

Suspending or closing accounts

We may suspend or close an account that breaks these terms, or to protect other learners or the site. Where it is reasonable to, we will tell you why first.

Links to other sites

We link to official guidance, such as GOV.UK, and to other organisations’ sites. They are run by other people, so check what they say for yourself.

Changes to these terms

We may update these terms, for example when the law or our features change. The date at the top shows when they last changed, and we will tell you in the app about changes that affect you.

Which law applies

These terms are governed by the law of [GOVERNING LAW, E.G. ENGLAND AND WALES]. If you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland, you can also bring legal proceedings in your local courts.
