ACS (Accredited Certification Scheme)
The scheme that assesses a gas engineer's safety competence area by area, such as core domestic safety, boilers or cookers.
ACS assessments take place at approved assessment centres. Each covers an area of work: CCN1 for core domestic gas safety, then appliance areas such as CENWAT for central heating boilers and water heaters, CKR1 for cookers, HTR1 for fires and space heaters, and CPA1 for combustion performance analysis.
Competence evidence does not last for ever: engineers are reassessed to keep it current. A gas business uses its engineers' current evidence to register them for the matching kinds of work.
Our lessons map subjects to these areas so you can see where they fit. They are not ACS preparation endorsed by anyone, and they award nothing.
