Backer board

A board made for tiling onto, such as a cement board or a waterproof foam board.

Backer boards don't soften when wet the way plasterboard does, and many carry more weight of tiling. Each maker gives its own weight limit and fixing method.

Many foam boards are part of a waterproof system when their joints are taped and sealed as the maker says.
