Free tiling training app
Learn wall and floor tiling on your phone
A free tiling training app for your phone. Good tiling is mostly what happens before the first tile goes on: what the wall can hold, which adhesive to use and where every cut will land.
Our tiling lessons teach the knowledge side: backgrounds, materials, setting out and the jobs to hand over, and the first three parts are free. They don't qualify you or get you a site card. The hands-on skill comes from real jobs.

Tiling topics
Plain-English guides to the questions people ask most.
- Backgrounds and PreparationCan you tile onto plasterboard?Yes, within its limit. Every wall background can only carry so much weight of tiling, and that weight is the tile plus the adhesive plus the grout.
- Materials and ToolsWhich tile adhesive class? The code on a bag of tile adhesive is a short description of how it behaves. Once you can read it, choosing one gets much easier.
- Setting Out and FixingSetting out a tiled wallSetting out is deciding where every tile will land before one goes on the wall. Ten minutes with a level and a pencil saves a wall of awkward cuts.
- Backgrounds and PreparationTiling over underfloor heating (and who connects it)Tiles and underfloor heating go well together, but the job is split. The tiler lays, protects and covers the mat. An electrician connects it.
- Finishing and CustomersWhy tiles crack or sound hollowMost tile failures trace back to the bed underneath, the background or movement nobody allowed for. The tile itself is rarely the problem.
- Backgrounds and PreparationWet rooms and tanking explainedTiles keep most water off, but grout lets some through. Tanking is the waterproof layer behind the tiles that stops it reaching the wall or floor.

Tiling practice questions
200+ practice questions across the path. Try free tiling questions by topic, with no account.
Is tiling right for you?
Tiling is physical, precise work, a lot of it on your knees, and the preparation matters more than the tiles. See what the job is like first.
How to become a tiler
People get in through a college course, an apprenticeship or starting as a tiler's mate, plus a CSCS card if you want to work on building sites.
More about the work
An app or a course?
Straight answer: it's the theory and the practice questions. You still need hands-on training.
What this app does
- ✓ Explain the theory in short lessons, then ask you about it
- ✓ Bring back the questions you got wrong, so they stick
- ✓ Show you what the trade involves before you pay for a course
- ✓ Fit round work, college or an apprenticeship
What it can’t do
- ✗ Teach your hands the job. That takes practical training and real work.
- ✗ Assess you, or give you a qualification or certificate.
- ✗ Get you a site card for building sites.
How to add it to your home screen
No app store needed. It's a web app, so you add it straight from your browser.
Android (Chrome)
- Open this page in Chrome.
- Tap the ⋮ menu at the top right.
- Tap Add to Home screen (it may say Install app), then confirm.
iPhone or iPad (Safari)
- Open this page in Safari.
- Tap the Share button.
- Tap Add to Home Screen, then Add.
It opens full screen from its own icon, like any other app. You still need an internet connection for lessons.
Questions about the free tiling training app
- Is the tiling training app really free?
- Yes. The first three parts are free, with no card and no trial clock. The later parts need Plus, our paid upgrade.
- Do I need to download anything?
- No. It runs in your phone's browser, so there's no app store and nothing to download. You can add it to your home screen with the steps on this page.
- Does it work offline?
- Not yet. Lessons need an internet connection.
- Will it get me a qualification?
- No. It teaches the knowledge side of tiling. It won't qualify you or get you a site card. The hands-on skill comes from a practical course and real jobs.
- Who checks the content?
- Everything is being checked by our team, and if you report a mistake from a lesson, we fix it.
- Is it for beginners or apprentices?
- Both. It starts from zero, and if you're already at college or on an apprenticeship you can use it to revise the theory.
