A ring final runs from the around the sockets and back again, which halves the current in each leg and lets a smaller conductor serve a larger floor area than a radial would. It also creates a failure mode radials don't have: a broken ring still works, silently, as two overloaded radials.

That's why the ring continuity test matters — measuring end-to-end resistance of each conductor, then cross-connecting and reading at each socket to prove the ring is genuinely continuous with no interconnects or breaks.
